Celebrating International Women’s Day at GB Bank

Another International Women’s Day rolls by and the team at GB Bank have been celebrating in style.

We had the pleasure of hosting part of the Power of Women’s health and wellbeing roadshow, ran a clothing fundraiser for the inspirational charity SmartWorks and celebrated the ‘Sheroes’ of our fabulous team – it’s been a wonderful week of celebrations at the North East’s newest bank! Have a read to see what we’ve been up to…

Power of Women Event

After the successful event back in January, it was a pleasure to host part of the Power of Women’s International Women’s Day festival. Run in conjunction with Tees Valley Sport, the festival included a health and wellbeing roadshow across Middlesbrough – encouraging women to try something new and increase physical activity. Core Defined delivered two fantastic fitness sessions in our event space, Pilates and a stretch and mobility class.

There was something for everyone throughout the day, including international dance, communicating with confidence, mindfulness, interior design, financial well-being, nutrition, menopause awareness, networking and a fabulous line-up of speakers. You can see more about how the festival unfolded on Power of Women’s LinkedIn.

Power of Women does great work across the region, providing young people with role models, inspiration, resources and information to take control over the choices they make and demonstrate the wealth of opportunities open to them within the Tees Valley. We’re always proud to work with their amazing team!

Smartworks fundraising

But we didn’t stop there! Our wonderful team wanted to celebrate International Women’s Day in more ways than one, so our team got together to organise a clothing fundraise for the fabulous Smart Works Newcastle. Smart Works do vital work to help women in the North East with interview clothing and coaching to boost their confidence for job interviews and help increase employability.

The generous clothing donations are still flooding in and we have already received thanks from the Smart Works Newcastle team.

To wrap up the day, our team members were celebrating their ‘sheroes’ – women who have inspired them throughout their lives. Here’s a couple of them, and you can see more of our team’s sheroes on our social media.

“One of my sheroes is my friend Renee. She is my shero because she is the type of person who will always be there for you, no matter what – she’s one of the people who simply makes life brighter. We’ve known one another for almost 20 years and through that time she’s been there by my side through all the big moments in my life (and vice versa) – good and bad. Moving across continents, birth, marriage, miscarriages, divorce – we’ve been through a lot together and I feel very lucky to have such a force for good in my life.”

“Anna Whitehouse has been a professional source of inspiration for me for quite some time. Back in 2016 Anna started a movement called ‘flex appeal’ which was about pushing back on the outdated approach to flexibility. She’s been involved in lobbying the government for change and has been a trailblazer for better ways of working for everyone – parent or not. I had the pleasure of working with her a few years ago and I continue to be in awe of her sheer determination and passion for what she does.”

International Women’s Day is a day of celebration that is very close to our hearts – we have many inspirational women on our team which help build the atmosphere and culture that makes GB Bank so special! You can view our mission and brand values here: https://gbbank.co.uk/our-purpose/
